New Evaluation System from academic year 2023-24

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has decided to introduce a new assessment and evaluation system for classes 6 to 10 starting from the academic year 2023-24. The new system will replace the existing practice of conducting exams at the end of each term with a more comprehensive assessment framework that will evaluate students throughout the year.

Under this new system, the students will be assessed on the basis of their performance in periodic tests, internal assessments, and year-end board examinations. The periodic tests will be conducted by the schools themselves, while the internal assessments will include activities such as project work, assignments, practicals, etc.

The new system aims to reduce the burden of high-stakes exams on students and provide them with a more holistic evaluation process that takes into account their overall performance throughout the year. Additionally, it will also help in promoting critical thinking and creativity among students, as the emphasis will be on developing their problem-solving and analytical skills.

The CBSE will provide detailed guidelines to schools on how to implement the new system effectively, and it is expected to bring significant changes in the way students are assessed and evaluated in the Indian education system.
